Beadle & Grimm’s Will Take To Kickstarter With The Pathfinder Character Chronicle

There have been two big announcements this week from the boys at the Pandemonium Warehouse. The first revealed they’d be taking a legendary trip to Barovia, and the second, which we got more details on earlier this morning, revealed that the warehouse’s newest destination is not just a different setting, but a different tabletop system,  and somewhere even scarier: the world of crowdfunding. Beadle & Grimm’s announced on Thursday that, for the first time ever, they will be partnering with Paizo Publishing to create something truly unique for Pathfinder 2E that will be coming to Kickstarter this fall: Character Chronicles, “combination of journal, character sheet and comprehensive rulebook material that covers every aspect of your playing experience.”

These books will help players track their character’s history from start to finish. Every epic critical and dismal failure will be captured in their pages for posterity. Special additions like birth and death certificates, maps, and journals help you chronicle your journey the way it was always meant to be. But they don’t just help you create character flavor/stroke your ego. Each one will be customized to a different character class, with rules, spells, feats, and stats included that are specific to each. Character sheets, floor plans for keeps and castles, and more all mean that the books act as a one-stop shop for any info you need while playing your character.

The initial round of books will feature the classic Wizard, Fighter, Cleric, and Rogue. Further classes will be unlockable as stretch goals.

According to the Supreme Marketing Goblin at the Warehouse, the idea came about when people frequently asked about Beadle & Grimm themselves, and they realized that they all had different recollections of. “We thought about how great it would be if all our journeys and experiences were recorded in a single book – like a scrapbook for your favorite character that sits proudly on your shelf.”

The death of a PC is always a sad occasion, but you can honor them the right way with an official death certificate.

The collaboration with Paizo was a natural one for the warehouse, as they’ve played plenty of 3E and 3.5E (the games from which Beadle and Grimm themselves originate from) and have even had an in-house game of Pathfinder running for a while. “That combination of newness and familiarity made Pathfinder a great choice for our first gaming system outside of D&D.” They also are hoping to give Starfinder a shot as well, which would be a brand new challenge for the goblins to overcome.

The game will feature rules from both the Player’s Guide and the recently released Advanced Player’s Guide.

This is going to be Beadle & Grimm’s first Kickstarter since they collaborated on The Sea King’s Malice, and the first they’ll be running on their own. The choice was made in order to help the company meet customer demand, as the size of the company means they operate with more limited resources. A Kickstarter helps them get a gauge on and meet customer demand, all while letting fans engage with the process early on in ways they’ve never been able to before.
