One of the most underappreciated shows currently airing, Bojack Horseman has given its loyal fans three brilliant seasons of great jokes and respectful, thorough explorations of its truly tragic characters. Why are you not watching this? Stop reading and start right now. I’ll wait. For those in the know, get hyped.
With the fourth season soon to Netflix, the streaming giant has released this basically perfect teaser showing where things are heading for the show’s amazing cast. We see Mr. Peanutbutter running for governor, his wife Diane working at a blog, Princess Carolyn thinking about a family, and Todd achieving success the way only Todd can. We also see a teenage horse with a striking resemblance to Bojack.

Notice what’s missing? That’s right, the title character himself. Where exactly is Bojack? Is he okay? What’s going through his messy, complicated head right now? Knowing Bojack Horseman (show, not horse), the answer will be a brilliant mix of humor and sorrow capable of bursting your lungs with laughter and breaking your heart from one scene to the next. And it will probably lead Bojack to an even darker place than he already is.
Here’s hoping this season eventually leads Bojack down the road to healing, and his friends along with him. They may all be damaged, terrible people from time to time, but one of the strongest parts of this show is its ability to make you feel they all deserve better than the lives they lead. Even if they sabotage their chances for those better lives.
The full fourth season of Bojack Horseman hits Netflix on September 8. Among the voices for its amazing characters are Will Arnett, Amy Sedaris, Alison Brie, Paul F. Tompkins, and Aaron Paul.
Please give this show a watch. You won’t find many better shows out there, animated or otherwise.
