The numbers keep climbing as the quest for an animated special from Critical Role continues over on Kickstarter. After being fully funded (reaching a total of $750,000) in 40 minutes, fans have continued pouring out their support. The second stretch goal was hit in just two hours, doubling their initial goal, and it only grew from there. Not only has the money reached almost ten times the initial goal, but now the animated special length has been dramatically increased as well!
The cast of Critical Role is working with Titmouse (Venture Bros.) to create a pre-stream, in-canon legend with the heroes of Campaign One: Vox Machina. The voice actors will all be reprising their roles, with Dungeon Master Matthew Mercer playing some of the non-player characters. They’re also working with Jennifer Muro on the script and have promised the addition of celebrity guests. If the quest stars on their twitch stream is any indication, those guests are going to be exciting.
Critical Role is a streamed game of Dungeon and Dragons. Now on their second campaign, the voice actors and best friends play live on twitch every Thursday night. The original tale followed Vox Machina, a group of seven adventurers who fought to save the very fate of their world. As of right now, the Kickstarter is at a cool $7 million. Thanks to meeting the newest stretch goal at $5.75 million, this project will feature 6, 22 minute episodes of animated content following Vax, Vex, Percy, Keyleth, Pike, Scanlan, and Grog before they had such vital missions, now including the start of the Briarwoods arc. Since this tale takes place before the stream, it is a wonderful starting point for anyone you know who is not yet invested in these characters or their story.
With 37 days to go, and 8 pledge levels still remaining, there is plenty of time and room to jump in on the action. That being said, six pledge tiers have already been completely sold out, and those were all above the $1,000 mark.
