Magpie Games announced today the upcoming launch of the Kickstarter for Fallen London: The Roleplaying Game, an official tabletop roleplaying game set in the haunting, mysterious world of Failbetter Games’ Fallen London—an immersive, text-based adventure game comprised of 4.5 million handcrafted words of deep, dark and marvellous stories, which has spawned three additional stand-alone games in the same universe (Sunless Sea, Sunless Skies, and Mask of the Rose).
The Fallen London: The Roleplaying Game Kickstarter will go live on February 11, 2025 at 10am Eastern. Backers are encouraged to follow the page at magpiegames.com/fallenlondon and back on the first day; backers who pledge for any physical tier in the first forty-eight hours receive a free devilbone die with their other rewards.
“Since announcing Fallen London: The Roleplaying Game at Gen Con last year, we’ve been thrilled to see the incredible excitement Fallen London fans have for this setting,” said Mark Diaz Truman, CEO of Magpie Games. “As fans of the original games ourselves, we are honored to bring the Neath to life in a new way, one that delves even deeper into the obsessive ambition in a world filled with horrific (and charming) secrets.” Fallen London: The RPG will include setting information seeded with plot hooks for players’ games, numerous character types representing the variety of Londoners fans love from the browser and video games, a full set of conflicts and dynamic systems for departing on ventures across London, and a sample venture to get players started on their journey. Those wishing to dive into the world now can download a full free quickstart featuring pregenerated characters, a short version of the rules, and an original venture titled “The Disappearance of the Transfigured Poet” by visiting www.magpiegames.com/fallenquickstart.
Fallen London: The Roleplaying Game will also be players’ first introduction to the Ædana System™, a new game engine from Magpie Games’ award-winning design team. The Ædana System features a core dice pool mechanic that focuses on fast, nuanced resolution for challenges. During play, players and GMs can also expand a challenge into one of many intricate conflict systems, diving deeply into full-fledged contests with surprising outcomes.
“Working with Magpie to bring this project to life has been a total joy,” said Hannah Flynn, Communications Director for Failbetter Games. “We’ve cooked up the most gorgeous rewards for the campaign, and I can’t wait for people to get their hands on the quickstart. It’s a dream to be able to say this is happening so soon, after people have been asking for it since Fallen London was launched 15 years ago!”
The crowdfunding campaign for Fallen London: The Roleplaying Game will feature five tiers of backer rewards, each offering different levels of access to premium content, including the standard Fallen London: The Roleplaying Game core book, a deluxe edition core book (featuring a luxurious embossed cover, silk bookmarks, and additional delights), dice packs, limited edition art prints, and a Guide to London supplement. Fans will have until the middle of March to pledge to the campaign with pledges unlocking compelling new content and physical stretch goals before the campaign ends.
Fallen London: The Roleplaying Game will ship to backers in late 2026; the book will arrive in broad distribution in early 2027.
