First Look Trailer for The Punisher

After shining in his first appearance in Daredevil’s second season, demand for The Punisher to receive a solo series reached a fever pitch. The announcement of the series was met with all the hype you would expect. It’s almost here, and Marvel gave us a teaser to raise the hype even further.

I’m feeling quite excited myself.

The series will take place after the events of Daredevil when Frank Castle donned the familiar skull for the first time. It will focus on him taking the title role while carrying out his extremist brand of vigilante justice after the murder of his family. There also appear to be glimpses of his past life, both with his family and in the military. There’s a lot of trauma to unpack from Frank Castle’s head and hopefully, this series does it all justice.

If there’s one thing we can take away from this teaser for certain, it’s how perfect Jon Bernthal is for this role. I thought so the moment he was announced for Daredevil, and everything I’ve seen since further justifies my faith in his abilities. I have no doubt he’ll manage even with weak material. Though obviously I don’t want or expect weak material.

The Punisher has always been capable of so much better than his various live-action renditions have given him. I have faith Marvel will finally tap into the full potential of this character with Netflix and join the likes of Daredevil and Jessica Jones regarding the best of the Netflix Marvel shows. At the very least Bernthal will drag it along the same way Mike Colter did for Luke Cage.

The Punisher’s first season hits the streaming giant in November. Along with Bernthal, the show will star Ben Barnes, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Amber Rose Revah, Daniel Webber, Paul Schulze, and returns Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page.
