Goliath Games has announced the acquisition of Lucky Duck Games, best known for games like Chronicles of Crime and Destinies. This is Goliath’s second big acquisition in the board game world, having recently picked up Funko Games and Prospero Hall last month. Unlike with that deal, there are no personnel changes planned for Lucky Duck.
Goliath, a global leader in children’s and family games with multi-generational hits such as Sequence, Floor Is Lava, Gooey Louis and Pop the Pig, won in the Adult Games category, published in Endless Games. Notable releases include crime game Unsolved Case Files, hit TV sensation The Traitors and several children’s games to be released under its global distribution deal with Funko Games announced last month.
Jochanan Golad, CEO of Goliath, said: “As a global games business, we see that there are two major areas of growth in games; (adult) party games and strategy games. Consumers and children especially are playing board games like never before; this trend was already there, but the pandemic had accelerated it greatly.”
Lucky Duck Games’ library of high-quality strategy titles will complement Goliath’s existing multi-category catalog.
Jochanan further expressed his admiration for Lucky Duck Games’ rapid growth in the strategy space. “Vincent and his team have done an amazing job in such a short time to become a standout player in the strategy game category. We are very impressed with the games they have brought to market.”
Vincent Vergonjeanne, founder of Lucky Duck Games, added: “Goliath’s entrepreneurial spirit aligns perfectly with ours. This partnership empowers us to continue investing in cutting-edge strategy games while leveraging Goliath’s extensive global distribution network to reach an even wider audience of mainstream gamers.”
Vincent and his management team will continue to run Lucky Duck Games autonomously as an independent studio within the Goliath group of companies, maintaining their commitment to designing and releasing innovative strategy games on a global scale.
