Created by Bojack Horseman supervising producer Lisa Hanawalt, Tuca & Bertie is an animated comedy following two women in their 30s who live in the same apartment building. Oh, and they are birds. Did you at least read the first sentence, it’s from the Bojack Horseman team. Animals are their business and business is good.
Tuca is described as a “cocky, care-free tucan” and Bertie is an anxious, daydreaming songbird. I love it already. Not much else is known about the show, but anyone who knows Bojack can guess; razor-sharp animal puns, jokes packed to the gills, and the kind of feels that leave you unable to function for a week. If Princess Carolyn is any indication of the quality we can expect of a show focused on two women in their 30s, then we’re in for something amazing.
Tiffany Haddish is set to voice to Tuca, and among the Bojack team attached to the show are Bojack creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg, Noel Bright, and Steven A. Cohen.
Over four seasons, Bojack Horseman has established itself as not only one of the best comedies currently airing, but one of the best shows, period. You can sign me up a thousand times for Tuca & Bertie. Here’s hoping they capture just how smart birds actually are. I know, I was surprised, too.
