Check Out This New Last Jedi Poster

Good guys? Check. Bad guys? Check. Hero thrust forward, ready to kick your ass with her lightsaber? Check, baby, check. The Last Jedi’s newest poster hits all the requisites and does so in stylish fashion.

If nothing else you have to be excited to see Rey taking the familiar action pose, prioritized above everyone else. She’s so great. Behind her you can see the other main and supporting players of the new trilogy, with Finn, Poe, and Kylo Ren standing out among the others. Those familiar heartbreaking Skywalkers also feature heavily on the poster, with Luke and Leia (the late, great Carrie Fisher) side by side.

Though I have to wonder about the placement of Leia and Finn on the side of the poster featuring Kylo and the Stormtroopers. Most likely Leia stands below Kylo as his mother, and Finn above the Stormtroopers because of his former place among them, but what more can be read from it? What potential sympathies may come into play which sympathize them with First Order? And I’m sure Luke’s placement directly behind Rey’s lightsaber, placing him on both sides, is quite purposefully hinting at a similar moral conflict.

Or maybe I’m reading too much into all this. It’s kind of what us fans do.

The Last Jedi is scheduled to hit theaters on December 15, almost exactly two years after The Force Awakens made me happy to be a Star Wars fan again.
