Marvel’s 4 Netflix heroes are finally sharing a screen. And if this first trailer is any indication, The Defenders is going to be awesome.
Featuring Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, the four heroes will team up to take on new villain Alexandra (played by the incomparable Sigourney Weaver) and the Hand approximately a month after the events of Iron Fist and a few after Daredevil’s second season. I know, I know, no one likes the Hand, but hear me out! This will still be awesome. This trailer features just about everything you could ask for, and the Hand should work better with Sigourney Weaver. Besides, think about how good these shows have all generally been.

Matt Murdock representing Jessica? Danny Rand and Luke Cage beating up the same goon and discovering each others’ powers in the process? Claire Temple? Misty Knight? Elektra? Stick? Come on, what’s not to love? The interactions are sharp, there’s apparently the mandatory hallway fight, and it looks like there’s more to the show than fun character moments. These are four people with a lot going on in their heads, and those issues need to come up between them.
I’m sure many also got a kick out of Luke smacking Danny Rand around. Plus the end dinner scene looked right out of The Avengers. I can’t wait. Whatever your thoughts are about these shows individually, how can you not be excited to see them all together? With Daredevil co-showrunner Marco Ramirez at the helm, you can at least be sure the person in charge knows what he is doing.
The Defenders hits Netflix on August 18. For those who don’t know the names, it will star Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Finn Jones (Iron Fist), and an outstanding supporting cast including Rosario Dawson (my queen), Elodie Yung, Simone Missick, Deborah Ann Woll, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jessica Henwick, and many others.
